Subject: Important Update on Wesleyan Travel and Events Due to Coronavirus/COVID-19
To the campus community:
We are carefully monitoring the evolving coronavirus/COVID-19 outbreak, paying particular attention to the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and other leading federal agencies and organizations. In the interest of keeping our community as informed as possible, we will continue to update Wesleyan’s coronavirus/COVID-19 information page as new information becomes available.
The health and safety of our campus community remain the University’s top priorities. To this end, and because of the virus’s recent (though anticipated) spread, Wesleyan has updated our guidelines on University travel and events. These guidelines will be effective through at least Friday, April 10, pending ongoing review:
All travel plans should be carefully reconsidered given the evolving situation, and all leaving Connecticut should register their travel with the University.
- Wesleyan has suspended University-funded travel abroad.
- Wesleyan faculty, students, and staff who travel for personal or University-funded business to/through an area designated as Level 3 by the CDC must self-quarantine for 14 days between returning to the U.S. and coming back to campus.
- Wesleyan has suspended University-funded travel to or through U.S. states that have declared emergencies related to COVID-19. Those states are:
- New York
- Wesleyan will cancel visits by guests from abroad and/or states that have declared emergencies related to COVID-19.
As we work through plans to ensure the continuity of our operations and mission, we are also thoroughly preparing contingencies should the virus make its way to our campus. Rest assured, every decision will be made with the best interests of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni’s health and safety in mind.
We appreciate your patience and support in these efforts.
