We are pleased to report that over the past several days the COVID-19 positivity rate has started to decline. As a result, we will reopen all in-person dining on campus starting with lunch service today (Thursday).
We also want to share more information on the new streamlined notification process for positive and inconclusive test results for students and the new process for contact tracing for all members of the Wesleyan community.
New Testing Notifications for Students
This week we implemented an e-mail system that will alert students of their COVID-19 test results. Students who test positive or have an inconclusive test through Broad Institute will receive an e-mail from Davison Health Center. They should, as soon as possible, complete the COVID-19 Health Update form linked therein. The form will collect information about symptoms and dining needs. Davison Health Center staff will reach out directly to the student if they indicate that they have severe symptoms. Residential Life staff and dining services will follow-up with students as needed.
If a student tests positive outside of our on-campus testing processes, they should complete the COVID-19 Health Update form as soon as possible. This form can be found on Wesportal and Keep Wes Safe website.
Testing Notification for Faculty and Staff
Human Resources will continue to notify faculty and staff who test positive for COVID-19 through Broad Institute. Faculty or staff members who test positive at an off-campus testing facility are still required to notify Donna Brewer in Human Resources. They should also consult their health care provider.
New Process for Contact Tracing
We have found that the most effective method of contact tracing is through personal outreach from those who test positive. This will be our approach for the entire campus community, effective immediately.
If any member of our community tests positive for COVID-19, we ask that they contact all those with whom they have spent 15 minutes or longer (within six feet) over the past 48 hours. For those notified that they are a close contact, please follow the protocols outlined below.
- If currently experiencing any COVID-related symptoms such as cough, fever, congestion, or sore throat, students should self-isolate and contact the Davison Health Center immediately at 860-685-2470. Faculty and staff identified as a close contact and experiencing symptoms should not come to work on campus and should contact their health care provider.
- If asymptomatic, fully vaccinated, and boosted, there is no need to isolate. Please wear a high-quality mask both indoors and outdoors for the next 10 days. Get a PCR test in approximately five days from notification. Students who develop symptoms should self-isolate and contact the Davison Health Center for further instructions. Faculty and staff who develop symptoms should self-isolate, not come to work on campus, and contact their health care provider
- If unvaccinated, or not up to date with booster shots, you must self-isolate for five days which means not attending classes, work, or any other group activities. Please wear a high-quality mask both indoors and outdoors for 10 days. Get a PCR test in approximately five days from notification.
Diligent masking continues to be the most effective way to halt spread of the virus. Free CDC recommended masks are available at Beckham Hall.
We are encouraged that the temporary restrictions we have put in place have reduced the spread of positive cases. We will monitor the next round of testing to determine if the conditions will allow us to return to the green alert level. We are hopeful!
